Test yourself with multiple choiceWhat kind of exam is it?
The Information Security Management Examination (SG) is a national exam within Japan's Information Technology Engineers Examination system. It tests a broad range of knowledge needed to protect an organization's information: managing information assets, responding to risk, security measures and the relevant law. It is useful not only to engineers but to anyone who handles information at work.
Format and how often it is held
As a rule it uses a CBT format available year-round. Questions are multiple choice, made up of Section A, which tests foundational knowledge, and Section B, which asks you to reason about situations close to real practice. It is an exam you can plan for at your own pace.
What passing gets you
It proves you understand the fundamentals of information security, which marks you out as someone who works with security in mind. You gain confidence in handling information at work, and a foundation for moving on to more specialized qualifications.
How to prepare
Beyond memorizing terms, your understanding deepens when you think about how you would judge a real situation. For case-based questions like those in Section B, working through plenty of multiple-choice items is what gets you used to the reasoning. Solve these repeatedly to build knowledge and judgment at the same time.
