What club football is

Club football is where sides rooted in a city or a community compete through the year, in league and cup competitions. Europe has its national leagues and its continent-wide competitions, where the best players in the world go up against one another. In Japan, the J.League, which kicked off in 1993, has done a great deal to grow the country's football culture.

What you will learn here

Questions draw on widely known facts about how Europe's major competitions work, the historic matches, and the J.League's story and its clubs. Understanding where a club came from and what a competition means brings out what is at stake in each individual fixture. It works whether you already have a club or are still looking for one to follow.

How to approach it

Start with the club you support or a competition you follow, then widen out from there. Each set takes only a few minutes, so it fits neatly into the wait before kick-off. Comparing scores with fellow supporters adds to the occasion.
