Buu uses a piece of his own body that he had detached beforehand to envelop and absorb Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks and Piccolo. Waiting until Goten and Trunks had entered their powerful fused form was part of the trap. Buu did not gain their abilities merely by observing their techniques.

The Old Kai transfers his own life to Goku and brings Goku back to life. This revival is not granted through a Dragon Ball wish; it is the personal cost the Old Kai pays to send one half of the planned fusion to Earth. Gohan is initially intended to be the other half.

The two people who will fuse each place one earring from the pair on an ear. Unlike the Fusion Dance, the process does not require symmetrical poses or practice matching their energy. At this point, Goku plans to share the pair with Gohan.

The new arrival is Vegeta, whom King Yemma has sent back to Earth for another mission. Goku joins him by Instant Transmission. When even fighting together normally is not enough against the strengthened Buu, they decide to fuse with the Potara.

Vegito already surpasses Buu strongly enough to knock back every energy blast. He then transforms into Super Vegito to beat Buu even more decisively. Gogeta is created through the Fusion Dance and is different in both fusion method and name.

Buu expands inside Vegito in an attempt to burst his body from within, but even this attack fails. This should not be confused with the later infiltration of Buu's body by Vegito, where both the direction of entry and the objective are reversed.

The ghost technique comes from Gotenks, the Masenko is attributed here to Piccolo, and the Kamehameha comes from Gohan. By absorbing the three warriors, Buu gains access not only to their power but also to their techniques, although Vegito evades the attacks with Instant Transmission.

Even as candy, Vegito retains his fighting power and beats Buu with his tiny body. The transformation succeeds, but the attempt to neutralize him fails, so Buu restores Vegito's normal form and changes tactics to absorption with a fragment of his body.

Vegito uses Buu's absorption as a way to infiltrate his body and rescue Gohan, Gotenks, Piccolo, and the others already trapped there. The barrier provides protection for safe entry; it is not intended to reject the absorption completely.

The attackers are not the absorbed warriors themselves, but false copies created from Buu's memories. Because Goku and Vegeta initially believe they are facing their real allies, they hesitate to fight back and fall into danger. Their appearance and techniques do not make them the people the pair came to rescue.
