Frieza's forces kept Vegeta alive to obtain information, but once he recovered, he used the opportunity to steal the Dragon Balls they had gathered. Rather than submitting after his treatment, he turned their calculation into an opening for his own theft.

Vegeta was focused on Krillin and his Dragon Ball, while Zarbon was focused on Vegeta. During that interval, Gohan recovered the separate ball that Vegeta had previously hidden in a pond. He took advantage of an opening away from the immediate chase.

Zarbon still transformed in the rematch, but Vegeta had recovered from the critical injuries of their first fight and become stronger than before. The reversal came from Vegeta's increased power, not from Zarbon losing his transformation.

A magnetic storm put the ship into a crisis of gravity exceeding 100 times Earth's, but Goku endured it and later mastered training at 100-times gravity. Both planned training and his response to the accident contributed to his growth.

Thinking quickly, Gohan managed to keep the recovered ball hidden from Vegeta. He then headed with Krillin toward Guru's home so Guru could unlock his potential and increase their fighting strength.

Bulma survived the danger posed by the giant crab guarding both its eggs and the Four-Star Ball, and she successfully recovered the ball. After returning to the surface, however, she faced a new threat and was captured by Blueberry and Raspberry. Recovering the ball did not make her safe.

Bulma falsely claimed that another ball remained underwater and lured the two soldiers into the submarine. She was exploiting their greed to buy time, not leading them to a real ball, but they eventually saw through the lie.

Just after Gohan's power was unlocked, they sensed five enormous power signatures approaching. These signaled the arrival of the Ginyu Force; the scene did not establish that the newly strengthened Gohan had surpassed Vegeta.

To confront their common enemy, the three decided to use the gathered balls to make Vegeta immortal. This was not a reconciliation based on complete trust, but a temporary alignment of interests for survival. The Ginyu Force arrived before they could make the wish.

Guldo compensated for his relatively low battle power with time stopping and paralysis, and Vegeta's surprise attack saved the immobilized pair. Recoome endured Vegeta's full-power assault and turned the fight around, but Krillin stopped the finishing Eraser Gun by striking Recoome's mouth just before it fired.
