Krillin demonstrates the gap between himself and Punter by winning with one blow. Piccolo, however, is not defeated by an attack; he withdraws after recognizing Shin as the Supreme Kai, a deity above him. One match ends through combat, while the other is a forfeit based on identity.

Babidi's magic gives Spopovich endurance and recovery far beyond that of a normal martial artist. He restores his broken neck himself and continues fighting, so the apparent finishing blow does not decide the match. Neither a Senzu Bean nor assistance from the referee heals him.

Yamu is concerned with their assigned energy-gathering mission, not Videl's safety. After being reminded that the prolonged beating serves no purpose, Spopovich throws Videl out of bounds and ends the match. It is not annulled by Gohan entering the ring.

Gohan first uses a Senzu Bean to restore Videl and then hurries to his own match. During this sequence, the spectators also learn that Great Saiyaman is Gohan. He neither abandons the injured Videl nor withdraws from his match with Kibito.

The Supreme Kai intends to let Yamu and Spopovich return to their master so their route will reveal Babidi's location. Immobilizing Gohan appears hostile in isolation, but it supports the larger goal of finding the base of the Majin Buu revival plot. It is not intended to secure a tournament victory for Kibito.

The wizard Babidi is collecting powerful energy to revive the sealed Majin Buu, and Gohan's energy is stolen for that purpose. By following the carriers, Goku's group reaches Babidi's spaceship. The theft has nothing to do with tournament administration or Cell's regeneration.

Dabura kills Kibito and petrifies Krillin and Piccolo with his unusual saliva. Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, and the Supreme Kai are therefore the four who can immediately pursue him into the ship. The other three did not voluntarily return to the tournament; they were removed from action by the attack.

Planet Zoon's ten-times gravity should favor the fighter born there. Vegeta, however, has already trained under gravity far beyond that level on Earth. The environmental change therefore cannot close the underlying gap in strength.

Rather than trying to prevent absorption, Goku releases Super Saiyan energy beyond Yakon's capacity. The ability to feed on light becomes the cause of Yakon's destruction through overload. Goku's goal is not merely to illuminate the darkness, but to force the opponent's strength past its limit.

Many competitors, including Goku's group, leave the venue and are treated as having withdrawn, making the original knockout bracket difficult to continue. The organizers therefore put the remaining fighters into a battle royal. The change is unrelated to the junior division or the qualifying machine.
