Many Titans are less active at night, allowing the Corps to pass near them on the way to its objective. Armin, meanwhile, reminds the anxious Eren of the road they have traveled and their shared dream beyond the Walls. One measure reduces the operational danger; the other eases Eren's psychological burden.

Without the horses, the surrounded soldiers would lose both long-distance mobility and a possible route of retreat. Protecting the horses is therefore essential to survival. At the same time, the Armored Titan is an immediate obstacle that must be attacked with the Thunder Spears, requiring the Corps to divide its effort between two objectives.

Although the Armored Titan appears to have stopped, it has not been completely defeated and soon moves and roars again. This does not mean the Thunder Spears had no effect. The scene distinguishes an apparent halt from confirmation of a fatal result.

Inside the district, buildings burn under the Colossal Titan's attack and Eren's group responds. Outside, Erwin, Levi, and their forces endure the Beast Titan's rock barrage. The key is not to reverse the two simultaneous battlefronts.

Outside, Erwin and the recruits charge as a diversion, allowing Levi to approach the Beast Titan. Inside, Armin continues to absorb the Colossal Titan's heat while Eren uses his hardened Titan shell as a decoy and removes Bertholdt from behind. In each plan, the person creating the opening differs from the person delivering the decisive attack.

The injection alone does not restore Armin as a human. It first transforms him into a Pure Titan. By eating Bertholdt, the holder of the Colossal Titan, Armin inherits that power and returns to human form. Because only one dose exists, the survivors must choose between Armin and Erwin.

The Scouts find three books in a false bottom of a desk, and the first includes a photograph. Grisha's written account and the photograph—something that could be mistaken for a drawing inside the Walls—provide evidence of humanity and technology outside. No living witness or weapon is hidden in the basement.

Grisha grows up as an Eldian in a Marleyan internment zone, where he is required to wear an armband. He leaves the zone without permission because he wants to show the airship to his sister Faye. This history overturns the idea that he was born inside the Walls.

Eren Kruger is an Eldian hidden within the Marleyan authorities and the true identity of the restorationists' source, the Owl. He passes the Attack Titan to Grisha and tasks him with entering the Walls and reclaiming the Founding Titan. He does not give Grisha the Beast Titan.

Historia and the military leaders disclose the truth of the outside world to the public. After the Titans on the island are nearly eliminated, the Survey Corps undertakes its first expedition beyond Wall Maria in six years and reaches the sea. While his companions celebrate, Eren looks toward the enemies beyond the water rather than treating the destination as unconditional freedom.
