Luffy goes after Bellamy to recover the Saruyama Alliance's gold and ends the fight with a single punch. At the same time, a meeting is held at Mary Geoise concerning Crocodile's replacement among the Seven Warlords of the Sea. The episode places a personal reckoning on Jaya alongside a development involving power on a global scale.

After completing the Flying Model and heading south, the crew sees the Imperial Cumulus Cloud earlier than expected. The change alarms the Saruyama Alliance, and a giant whirlpool waits in the rough sea. The plan is complicated by an accelerated natural timetable and a hazard on the route, not by the ship's modifications breaking down.

The air in the White Sea is thin, so the three cannot move effectively and are defeated by the masked man. Just as he prepares to fire his bazooka, a knight riding a bird appears. Their weakness comes from being unaccustomed to the high-altitude environment, not from cloud footing or seasickness.

The crew first lands on Angel Beach, where the ground is made of soft cloud, and meets the island resident Conis. Upper Yard is later identified as God's forbidden island rather than the place where the crew first relaxes.

Upper Yard is sacred ground where God is said to live, and entering it is absolutely forbidden. Even after learning this, Luffy shows every intention of going inside. Unlike Angel Beach, it is not an area that visitors may enter by paying an admission fee.

McKinley explains that the illegal entry can be settled by paying a fine, but the amount is seven million Berries. Enraged by the excessive sum, Nami rams him with her Waver, turning a payment dispute into a new act of force. The confrontation does not occur after the fine has been paid.

The Super Express Shrimp carries away Nami and the others aboard the Going Merry as sacrifices. Luffy, Usopp, and Sanji remain behind and must enter the ordeals as they pursue their friends. The crew is divided into a forcibly transported group and a pursuing group rather than traveling by the same route.

Conis confesses that she was the person who summoned the Super Express Shrimp that carried off Nami's group. Divine judgment then strikes from the sky. The key sequence is that the same person guiding the three to the dock made the call, followed immediately by the danger from above.

The three enter God's Island aboard the Crow Boat and first evade the giant scythes that fall in succession. A Sky Eel then attacks them, and they eventually reach the entrances to four ordeals. The Super Express Shrimp carried Nami's group and is not the three men's vessel.

Luffy's intuition leads the group into the Ordeal of Balls. Although the area appears to contain only countless balls of island cloud, they are Surprise Clouds that may release snakes or explode, and the priest Satori presides over the ordeal. Their harmless appearance is part of the trap.
